100 not out for healthy workplaces

100 workplaces now part of the scheme

Local organisations and businesses in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland have been keeping their employees’ health a priority this year.

Leicestershire County Council’s Healthy Workplaces programme, delivered by the Public Health team, has signed up its 100th workplace to receive health and wellbeing support including health checks, training to support their employees as well as the opportunity to implement clear policies and processes.

Businesses and organisations who sign up can benefit from the Workplace Health Needs Assessment, Health MOTs for staff, training for managers and other support that is available. Organisations can expect an accreditation programme that ensures a fully bespoke and tailored experience.

Since starting in April 2023, Healthy Workplaces has completed 359 Health MOT Checks including the National Space Centre, ESPO and independent steel supplier uptonsteel, who have become the 100th customer. Other organisations across the area are also working towards their accreditation and becoming healthier places to work.

Councillor Louise Richardson, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said “We are proud to have a service that can reach out to a variety of local businesses and organisations to help create a healthier workforce.

“For employers, it can help with productivity and for employees it can keep them informed about their health.”

Angela Richardson Human Resources manager for Uptonsteel said: “We at Uptonsteel actively promote health and wellbeing for all our employees.  We were made aware of the Healthy Workplace initiative and felt that it was something that would benefit our employees by being able to have access to onsite Health MOTs.

“We are pleased to be able to support Healthy Workplaces as we feel it complements what we already have in place, such as onsite flu vaccinations each year, a gym, mental health first aiders, occupational health and an employee assistance programme.”

Ashby-based Plastribution Ltd are just one of the organisations to have seen the benefits of services since signing up to the programme, with one staff participant saying:  "The staff were very friendly and helpful. The length of the appointment was perfect. They gave advice without being patronising, which has been my experience in the past with health checks."
