The Big Friendly Read, Summer Reading Challenge 2016

This year's Summer Reading Challenge starts Saturday 9 July.

Children from 3-12 years will be able to join this year’s Summer Reading Challenge at their local library from 9 July.

This year’s challenge is ‘The Big Friendly Read’ inspired by Roald Dahl’s books and explores some of the themes in his books; mischief, invention, adventure, wordplay, child champions and friendship.

Children can collect limited edition Quentin Blake collector cards and incentives and be rewarded with a medal and certificate if they read or listen to 6 library books or library e-books and complete the challenge, before it ends on 3 September.

Children's reading can dip during the long summer holidays. The annual Summer Reading Challenge, helps gets three quarters of a million children into libraries to keep up their reading skills and confidence and have fun at the same time.

Look out for The Big Friendly Read events in your library. For more information about The Big Friendly Read call in at your local library or follow us on facebook.com/yourlibrary and twitter.com/leicslibraries.
