New chairman backs children's charity

Bill Liquorish is the 42nd chairman

County Hall

Bill Liquorish has been elected as Leicestershire County Council's 42nd chairman.

Councillor Liquorish has been involved in local government since 1974, initially with Whetstone Parish Council, then Harborough District Council and as county councillor for Broughton Astley since 2005.

I’m honoured to become the county council’s chairman and I look forward to meeting people across the county during my year in office.

“I’ll be supporting the Leicester Children’s Holiday Centre at Mablethorpe during my year. I hope to raise awareness of this wonderful charity and to help with fundraising where I can.”

A former Post Office Telephones employee and magistrate, Coun Liquorish was the first chair of governors at Badgerbrook Primary School in Whetstone and a former governor of Thomas Estley College in Broughton Astley

Coun Liquorish will be supported in his civic year by his partner, Kim Can, and his daughter, Catherine.

The new vice-chairman is Councillor Janice Richards.
