Rugby players Emily Scarratt and Megan Jones, rower Jonny Walton, archer Lizzie Warner and gymnast Andrew Stamp were all backed in their early days by Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport’s Go Gold programme.
The Go Gold programme, funded by the county council, along with the city and Rutland councils and all districts, provides financial support for talented county sportsmen and women who have the potential to compete at a higher level.
Competing in an Olympics will be the pinnacle of sporting achievement for these athletes and we’re delighted that the Go Gold funding helped them at the start of their journey to Rio.”
