‘Baby Fortnight’ is back in April, with a series of free activity sessions and workshops taking place across Leicestershire for 0–2-year-olds.

Parents and carers can book onto sessions now, which include messy play, language support workshops and sensory fun.

Last year more than 200 children joined in with Baby Fortnight, organised as part of Leicestershire County Council’s Family Hub ‘Start for Life’ initiative. This year there will also be events held in Rutland.

Running from 28th April until 9th May, the sessions are aimed at giving parents and carers the support they need to aid their child’s development through simple and engaging activities.

Jane Moore, director of children and families at Leicestershire County Council, said “These activities are not only fun, but inspiring and educational too.

“With the success we had last year, we hope that more families will get involved and take advantage of these brilliant free sessions.”

Sessions planned will include:

  • NEW ‘Shake and Shout’ offers a unique workshop for parents/carers with rhymes, props and interactive stories for you and your little ones. This engaging music filled session is designed to help your little ones discover creative and effective ways to nurture your child’s early communication and language skills.
  • ‘Let’s Get Messy’ is a creative session providing fun for children and parents alike whilst also sharing tips on how messy play can encourage a child’s development.
  • ‘Little Senses’ sessions provide fun activities for you and your child to explore their senses and encourage all round brain development.

To book a place, contact your local Family Hub directly. Details of all family hubs events, addresses and hub contact details can be found on the Family Hubs website.

Virtual sessions will also be available for parents, carers and those working with children across LLR and their families from birth to 2 years, these will be delivered by a variety of agencies such as Leicestershire County Council, HomeStart Horizons, Leicestershire Partnership Trust and Public Health.

Those interested in these sessions are encouraged to sign up to an online event.
