Kibworth is one of 13 recycling and household waste sites in Leicestershire. Site users must keep children and pets in vehicles at all times and be alert and aware of other vehicles and pedestrians on the site.

Waste site updates

ReHome Zone and reusable items

Good quality items can now be reused at some sites. Residents can bring the following good quality items for reuse (not electrical equipment, gas bottles or paint) to the ReHome Zone at Barwell, Bottesford, Coalville, Kibworth, Loughborough, LutterworthMelton Mowbray, Mountsorrel, Shepshed and Whetstone sites. They can also be taken to Lount, Market Harborough and Oadby - speak to site staff for direction.

  • Household and garden furniture (all soft furnishings must have a compliant fire label attached)
  • Home office equipment
  • Bicycles and scooters
  • Handheld or petrol DIY and garden tools such as petrol-powered lawnmowers and other equipment

Items must be clean, not altered or modified and not defaced or damaged in any way that affects the use or appearance eg. no visible scratches or chipped, cracked or broken glass.

Note: Residents are not permitted to remove any items from sites, including from these areas.

From 1 April: Where a site is scheduled to be open it will be open 9am to 5pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, and 9am to 7pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Always check the web page for your intended waste site before you visit (including the usual accepted items list for each site, unless otherwise stated below). Please arrive at least 10 minutes before closing.

Before setting off, check our website for opening hours, check our X (Twitter) or Facebook for the latest updates. Please note:

  • Weekends, especially during bank holidays, are usually busy. Sometimes we're unable to accept certain materials and, in extreme cases, may have to close sites until there is sufficient capacity to run them safely.
  • We plan for busy periods, but urge you to think about when to visit your waste site, to avoid delays.
  • When visiting one of our sites please remember to wear appropriate sturdy footwear and gloves.

Waste site terms and conditions and site rules

Vehicles are allowed access to the site up to 5 minutes before closing time (at peaks times this may be increased).

This site does not accept vehicles with:

  • A Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) or permissible maximum weight of greater than 3.5 tonnes
  • A trailer length greater than 3 metres (9ft 8in)

A 5mph speed limit applies and speed humps up to 75mm high are in place.

  • Vans, pick-ups and cars with trailers, and any vehicle bringing chemicals or liquid paint, must have a Waste Permit.
  • Suitable footwear and gloves should be worn to assist in safe handling of your waste. Please ensure you can unload your waste yourself, as we cannot guarantee that physical assistance can be provided by site staff.
  • All vehicles must be off-site by closing time

Charges for some types of non-household waste

There is a charge to dispose of some types of non-household waste.

You can only pay using a credit or debit card, contactless when possible. Cash or cheques will not be accepted.

This site does not accept

Ammunition including explosive caps
Business waste - accepted at Whetstone Waste Transfer Station subject to charges
Chemicals
Clinical waste including needles/sharps
Clothes for work such as uniforms and protective clothing, high visibility vests / jackets
Coffee pods
Community equipment (Medequip) - wheelchairs, Zimmer frames, walking sticks, toilet frames etc.
Construction wood - railway sleepers, telegraph poles, any wood such as fence posts and panels that have been treated with creosote or a lead chromate paint
Paint in liquid form - accepted at Whetstone waste site with a valid paint permit
Tyres
Vehicles or trailers or any parts, including interiors

This site accepts

Asbestos* - charges apply and requires a valid permit (sent for landfill disposal)
Batteries - car (lead/acid only) and household batteries (usually sent for recycling)
Bric-a-brac - Reuse/ReHome Zone
Cardboard - clean (usually sent for recycling)
Cartons (usually sent for recycling)
Chipboard (usually sent for energy recovery)
Clothes - must be clean and dry and not shredded, stained, defaced or altered. Uniforms and work clothing not accepted (usually sent for reuse or recycling)
Computers and peripherals including ink cartridges, tablets, gaming consoles (usually sent for recycling)
Cooking oil (usually sent for recycling or energy recovery)
COVID-19 contaminated material (or suspected) when double bagged and kept for at least 72 hours (usually sent for energy recovery or landfill disposal)
Engine oil (usually sent for recycling)
Fluorescent tubes (usually sent for recycling)
Foil (usually sent for recycling)
Food tins and drink cans (usually sent for recycling)
Fridges and freezers^
Garden waste**
Gas bottles/cylinders - sealed, punctured or de-valved (sent for repatriation or treatment)
Glass - bottles and jars. For flat glass charges apply (usually sent for recycling)
Hardcore and soil charges apply (usually sent for recovery or disposal)
Ink cartridges (usually sent for recycling)
Low energy bulbs (usually sent for recycling)
Mobile phones (usually sent for recycling)
Non-recyclable household waste - black bags, carpet, mattresses etc. (usually sent for treatment / disposal)
Paint - solidified or empty paint containers
Paper - clean (no staples or clips) and not laminated or plastic coated (usually sent for recycling)
Plasterboard*** charges apply (usually sent for recycling)
Plastic - bottles, pots, tubs and trays (usually sent for recycling). Hard plastics like garden furniture, children's toys, crates etc. (usually sent for treatment / disposal)
Scrap metal - including food tins and drink cans. No vehicle parts (usually sent for recycling) 
Shoes including Wellington boots. Must be clean and dry (usually sent for reuse or recycling)
Small appliances (usually sent for recycling)
Textiles - clean and dry, no cut-offs (usually sent for reuse or recycling)
TVs and monitors (usually sent for recycling)
Upholstered domestic seating^^ including bean bags, futons, pouffes and stools (usually sent for energy recovery / incineration)
Vapes - accepted with small appliances (usually sent for recycling)
White goods - large domestic appliances (usually sent for recycling)
Wood - untreated, non industrial/construction (usually sent for recycling)

*Asbestos: you can dispose of 30 sheets or bags (or a combination of both); 10 lengths of guttering; 1 water tank

**Any branches or tree trunks must be smaller or cut down to less than 15cm wide and 1 metre in length.

***We can only accept plasterboard for recycling if all fixtures and fittings, such as tiles or woodwork, have been separated from the plasterboard first. We cannot accept demolition waste that contains plasterboard mixed with other materials such as tiles and bricks.

^If your fridge or freezer or wine/beer cooler is glass fronted or branded, additional questions may be asked by site staff to ensure the items are household waste and not from commercial activities.

  • Please remove all confidential data from your PC, laptop, phone or tablet before you dispose of it.
  • You must remove confidential material from your general waste and ensure that it is disposed of correctly.
