POhWER is a national registered charity which delivers information, advice, support and advocacy services to people facing difficult issues and who want to make their voice heard.

POhWER's advocacy services are free, independent and confidential.  All our advocates are home based and live locally in Leicestershire/Rutland.  Our advocacy services in Leicestershire/Rutland are:

NHS Complaints AdvocacyA local advocate can help you complain about the care/treatment provided by the NHS in order to get an apology, explanation and an assurance that lessons have been learnt so that it won’t happen again.

Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA)IMCA supports and protects the rights and liberties of people over 18 who lack the mental capacity to make key decisions about their lives, and acts as an independent and legal safeguard.

Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA)If you are detained on a section under the Mental Health Act, you have a legal right to receive information and support from an Independent Mental Health Advocate, also referred to as an ‘IMHA’. Our Independent Mental Health Advocacy Service can help you to understand your situation. We can provide you with options to access relevant support and understand the choices you have.

You can use this service if you are:

• currently being detained under certain sections of the Mental Health Act
• subject to Guardianship or a Community Treatment Order
• considering certain treatments which have been suggested to you.
