About HS2

High Speed 2 (HS2) is the largest rail infrastructure project in Europe. For the Midlands and North regions, funds have now been relocated to the Network North Plan instead.

In November 2021 the government published its Integrated Rail Plan, that amongst other proposals included the forward plan for HS2 through the East Midlands.

However, following the government announcement of the cancellation of the HS2 beyond Birmingham, a decision was made to relocate funds under the Network North plan.

This plan includes several funding streams aimed to support bus services, road resurfacing and the Local Transport Fund for general highway and transport improvements throughout Leicestershire.

More information on the plan for Leicestershire and the Midlands can be found at Network North Funding

An up-to-date summary on the HS2 project can be found on the main HS2 website.
