Yellow weather warnings – how to get prepared

Tips to get ahead of bad weather

Two road signs reading road ahead closed and diversion

Leicestershire residents are urged to be ‘flood aware’ and to get prepared for bad weather.

The weather is set to be more settled today and tomorrow (Saturday 28 September) but this could change, with more rain and wind expected for Sunday (29 September), when a further yellow warning may be put in place.

In light of these changing weather conditions and the impact of heavy rain earlier this week, we’re advising residents and businesses to stay alert.

Flooding is possible this weekend – here’s how to be prepared:

Check your home insurance policy to ensure flood cover is in place

Sign up for flood warnings

Make a flood plan

Check your flood risk

Prepare your home

Check before you travel

In addition, we urge residents to check in on vulnerable neighbours who may need support in the event of bad weather and to wear warm clothes and appropriate footwear.

If you need sandbags or assistance with housing and shelter, please contact your local district council.

If you want to report a blocked or damaged gully, you can do so on the council’s website.

Councils, emergency services and the NHS work together to help people prepare for harsh weather and to stay safe. Read more on our emergency flood advice.
