Leap into learning this Autumn

Hundreds of courses to suit all ages

GoLearn, Leicestershire's adult learning service, is encouraging anyone aged 19 and over to check out a wide range of part-time day, evening, and weekend courses in venues across the county.

The courses are designed to help learners develop skills for employment and everyday life - whether that is looking to make a CV stand out from the crowd, pursuing a new interest, gaining confidence or meeting new people.

The courses are available both online and face-to-face at adult learning centres and community venues, including the newly-transformed learning suite at Melton Library.

A 70 per cent discount on fees is available to learners in receipt of certain benefits or on a low household income. Depending on circumstances, some courses may be free of charge.

Courses on offer include British Sign Language, drawing and painting, essential digital skills, learning for confidence and better mental health, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and English and Maths functional skills.

Open days are continuing across the county this month, with a 20 per cent discount on course fees available for all enrolments on the day.

There is a range of free ‘have a go’ activities to try as well as the opportunity to meet with tutors from across the service to discuss learning and work goals for 2022.

The events coming up are:

Tomorrow (Thursday, Sep 8) - Roundhill adult learning centre, Thurmaston (10am - 1pm) and Coalville library (2pm-6.30pm);

Tuesday, Sep 13 -  Melton library (11am - 2pm)

Melton library has undergone a fantastic transformation and, for those interested in attending, it is a great opportunity to see the new and improved learning suite, meet the tutors and try a free activity.

“Open days are interactive and informative, they are a great way for learners to gain a deeper understanding of the courses available. I would urge everyone to attend an open day if possible and see how GoLearn can help them.

Yvonne, a digital skills learner from Syston, said being on a course which brushed up on her Power Point skills has been enormously beneficial.

She said: "My confidence has improved as I now understand how it works and the advantages. I also enjoyed being with a small group of like-minded adults who were there for the same reasons as me.”
