Financial help is available for people whose properties have been affected by storms across the winter months.

Residents and businesses across the county who experienced internal flooding to their property during Storm Babet or Storm Henk can apply for up to £5,000 of Government grant funding to help make their properties more resilient to future flooding.

Eligible flood-hit property owners can also apply for the property flood resilience repair grant for retrospective work which they have funded themselves.

Victoria Coombes, Leicestershire County Council’s flood risk manager, said: "We know that residents and businesses were hit incredibly hard by these storms. If flood water previously entered your home or business, I urge you to apply for the financial help available.

“It’s also really important that our communities are as prepared as possible for future flooding, as the reality is, we can expect more flooding like we’ve experienced this past year.”

Affected households and businesses can find timescales for fund applications and other details on the dedicated webpage.

The county council is administering the property flood resilience repair grant on behalf of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

The grants are part of a wider package of support which was made available through the Governments Flood Recovery Framework. District and borough councils administered cash grants, council tax and business rates relief earlier this year.
