With just over a week until polls open in Blaby and Glen Parva for council elections, residents are being urged to use their vote.

By-elections take place on Thursday 21 December in Blaby and Glen Parva division for a new county councillor. Glen Parva ward will be electing a new district councillor, whilst a parish councillor will be voted in in Blaby.

The district and county by-elections follow the recent resignation of Councillor Geoff Welsh.

Polls will be open from 7am-10pm on election day and the polling station voters should go to will be on poll cards.

Four candidates are standing for the county council seat, with the winning candidate taking up their position to represent residents until the next scheduled county council election in May 2025.

Voters are reminded that a valid form of identification is needed in order to be able to vote. Blaby District Council is in charge of running all the elections and information about voter ID, as well as candidates for each election are available on the Blaby website.

Lauren Haslam, director of law and governance, said: “We’re just over a week away from voters being able to have their say on who represents them in Blaby and Glen Parva.

“We offer over 400 services, including school places, roads, transport, local health, social care or waste disposal. These affect everyone so I hope as many people as possible cast their vote on Thursday 21 December.”

A list of candidates standing for election to the county council is available on the by-election webpage.
