Be prepared for flooding

Be prepared for flooding this winter

Flooded road with warning sign

With recent storms causing flooding across the county, residents and businesses in Leicestershire are encouraged to be prepared.

Flooding has had a deep effect on communities, homes and businesses over recent months. Follow the advice below to be flood aware:

Other advice for the cold weather includes checking in on vulnerable neighbours and wearing warm clothes and suitable footwear.

If you need sandbags or assistance with housing and shelter, please contact your local district or borough council.

During Storm Henk, around 350 properties were flooded across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, with the county council’s Highways team closing over 40 roads and dealing with over 300 calls to report flooding.

The Government has agreed to release funding to help flood-hit residents and businesses. As soon as an application process for this is available, residents will be notified.

To help unlock funding, it’s important residents report to the council if they have been flooded recently or in previous months through an online form.

If you want to report a blocked or damaged gully, you can do so on the council’s website.

Councils, emergency services and the NHS work together to help people prepare for harsh weather and to stay safe. Read more on our emergency flood advice.
