People cycling to work and walking to school

Residents are invited to use an innovative interactive map as plans to improve Leicestershire’s cycling, walking and wheeling network progresses.

The county council is using Social Pinpoint, a community engagement tool, to collect feedback from residents for Market Harborough’s Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP). The engagement runs until 24 October.

Using the site’s straightforward interactive map, residents can now directly pinpoint the changes they would like to see to cycling, walking and wheeling routes in and around the area, such as new cycle lanes, roundabouts or walking trails.

The Market Harborough plan is the next step in the council’s ambitions towards making changes to key areas of travel across the county, with the aim to establish an attractive, integrated cycling and walking network.

Increasing access to sustainable transport also support the council’s goal of being net zero by 2045 and will help improve the health of local communities.

This plan will shape local walking, cycling and wheeling routes in and around Market Harborough for the future, so the more input we receive from local residents, businesses, visitors and councillors, the better for us all.

As well as helping us build and establish a coherent cycling, walking and wheeling network,  progressing work on our LCWIPs also helps us secure funding from the government and private developers to ensure we can put our proposals into action.

The feedback we have collected so far from previous LCWIP consultations has been extremely insightful, and we hope this continues as we progress our travel plans across the county.

Residents can visit the council’s website to complete the survey and find out more about social pinpoint.

All of the measures currently being considered, as well as other proposals and suggestions arising from the plan and engagement, will be subject to the council securing sufficient funding.

Further information about the council’s Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan can be found on the county's website.
