Oadby CYCLOPS junction scheme

We would like your views on changing the layout of the A6 Leicester Road / Harborough Road and The Parade junction.

The engagement runs from 23 July to 20 August 2024.

The Parade, Oadby CYCLOPS junction scheme proposes to upgrade the junction (of the A6 (Leicester Road and Harborough Road), joining Regent Street, Stoughton Road and The Parade) to a Cycle Optimised Protected Signals (CYCLOPS) layout – the first in Leicestershire.

A CYCLOPS junction is designed to prioritise the safety of cyclists and pedestrians whilst working in harmony with motor traffic.

Active Travel England GOV.UK have identified junctions as containing the most conflict points between cyclists and motor traffic. As more people make journeys by cycling and walking, the CYCLOPS scheme in Oadby aims to make the junction safer for all individuals by:

  • reducing areas of conflict between traffic, motor traffic, cyclists and pedestrians
  • optimising the flow of traffic for motorists

We hope this will motivate more people to cycle and walk in the local area.

Have your say

We want to hear your views on the proposals and what you think about CYCLOPS junctions.

Visit The Parade, Oadby CYCLOPS junction scheme for more information about the proposals.

The engagement runs between 23 July and 20 August.

We’re asking:

  • Residents and local businesses for their views on the proposals
  • Cycling and walking groups with a special interest for their ideas and concerns
  • Emergency services and road transport groups to consider the impact, if any, of the proposals

Online survey

If you would like a full technical illustration of the proposed scheme, or paper copies of the survey, please email tpp@leics.gov.uk.

Next steps

All responses from the survey will be presented to the Lead Member for Environment and Transport from September. This will include a recommendation on whether to proceed with the project, and suggestions for changes to the design of the junction.

You will be able to see how this has shaped any decisions on our You said, we did page.

The proposals will undergo detailed design work, where the layout of the junction would be finalised. Approval would then be sought from Cabinet to proceed to construction. The aim is to complete the project by Winter 2025.
