Further insight into cycling and walking plans

Individuals, businesses and groups encouraged to attend County Hall event

Activity from a previous sustainable travel forum

There’s still time to register your interest in attending another public forum which will showcase the county council’s plans for active and sustainable transport.

The forum, which is being organised by the council’s Choose How You Move (CHYM) team is being held at County Hall in Glenfield on Wednesday, 18th September (from 6pm to 8pm) and you can attend in-person or view online .

It is open to individuals, groups and  and organisations who are keen to hear more about the council’s plans for promoting alternatives to driving.

The event is supported by Active Travel England, the executive agency from the Department of Transport which guides the council and provides funding to help improve travel options across the region.

The forum was first launched last year, and attracted over 50 attendees, both in-person and online. People were updated about the council’s cycling and walking strategy, including local cycling and walking plans across the county.

The return of the forum is a chance for people to hear about the recent and ongoing projects from Active Travel England and the council, and will include CHYM’s new initiatives, events and closer ways of working with communities. People can also expect updates about local cycling and walking plans.

Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “It’s great to see the cycling, walking and wheeling forum is coming back. We received fantastic feedback from the first one, and we want to build on that. There’s plenty on offer this year for people to discover and get excited about, thanks to the external funding that we rely on to make it happen.

“We’re doing what we can to make walking, cycling and wheeling make sense in our communities, so people can make better, healthier choices for themselves and for Leicestershire.”

Active and sustainable transport options are also explored.
