Travel arrangements
Unlike travelling to school, there is no statutory duty for the council to provide travel assistance to and from short breaks. Parents and carers are responsible for travel arrangements and needs to be considered when selecting an activity, as other options closer to home may be available.
If this isn't possible, and it would be detrimental to the child or family not to receive their short break, consideration may be given to providing funded transport.
Families should consider if they are eligible for the Motability element of the disability living allowance and how this could support travel to the short breaks.
If you have tried these options and are still unable to support your child to access short breaks, please contact Family Help to undertake a review, so that all options can be further explored as part of the outcome of a short breaks assessment and associated support planning.
