GoLearn’s GCSE courses now available

Upskill with our GoLearn courses

Primary school teacher Roopa Shukla holds her GCSE certificate

There’s still time to enrol to Leicestershire County Council’s GoLearn GCSE English and Maths courses.

Anyone interested in studying a GCSE English or Maths course is encouraged to find out more or register as the academic year begins. Thousands of Leicestershire residents  are already enrolled across GoLearn’s huge catalogue of courses including over 200 learners being enrolled on the English and/or Maths programmes.

The GCSE English and Maths courses for adults aged 19+ have been designed to fit around everyone’s schedule – courses are available either online or face-to-face and can be attended during the day or evening.

The GCSE courses are free to anyone who has never previously achieved a grade 4/C in English or Maths at level 2 (a GCSE or a functional skills qualification at Level 2), or people who have achieved a level 2 qualification but feel they have lost these skills over time.

Councillor Christine Radford, cabinet member for adults and communities, said: “These GCSE courses give everyone a chance to develop essential skills from our fantastic GoLearn team.

“Gaining extra skills can help you in so many ways, including your own reading and arithmetic, as well as helping your children with their homework. There are so many positives so if anyone is interested, I encourage them to find out more.”

Primary school teacher Roopa Shukla took the GCSE English class to help progress her career. Originally from India, the classes were a perfect way to help her gain the recognised qualifications she needed to apply for a senior leadership qualification

Roopa, who achieved a grade 8 on the course, said: “It was challenging to go from online learning to sitting an exam in a classroom as an adult, but the advice and support of my tutor, Cathy, was really good.

“Instructions given were good, and the resources and online learning environment was easy to navigate. The feedback given on the course was very constructive so I could build on it to improve myself. Feedback was given very regularly which was a plus-point.”

Thanks to the course and her grade 8 result, Roopa will be applying for a senior leadership qualification next year.
