Wigston school plans submitted

A planning application for a state-of-the-art special school in Wigston has been submitted

Wigston special school design

Leicestershire County Council has submitted a planning application to Oadby and Wigston Borough Council for a brand new £10 million state-of-the-art special school in the town.

The application relocates Birkett House School to the Wigston Academy Station Road campus. Once open in September 2017, it will provide places for up to 125 children and young people aged between four and 19. Features within the new school include a hydrotherapy pool and sensory, interactive rooms incorporating multi-sensory technology.

We are all excited about moving these plans a step further by submitting this planning application to the borough council.

This new school will provide excellent, modern facilities and learning and development opportunities for children and young people who have a wide range of needs, from profound and multiple learning difficulties to a moderate disability.

Designs for the ultra-modern school were revealed to parents and residents by the county council and local head teachers at a drop-in session last September.

The application can be viewed online. If approved, building work is expected to on 16 May 2016.
