The leader of the council, Nick Rushton, is wishing all residents a merry Christmas after a difficult year.

I would like to wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas at this, the end of yet another eventful and challenging year.

I have been impressed every day by the determination and resilience of the people of Leicestershire in the face of many uncertainties and I’d like to thank them for the spirit they continue to show.

I’d also like to pay tribute all our council staff for their hard work on behalf of residents often in very difficult circumstances.

I hope you all have a restful Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year.

Leicestershire County Council leader, Nick Rushton

Nearly 100% of children get top three primary choices

If you're a resident interested in fostering, the upcoming county hall event is a chance to hear from other foster carers

A record 99% of children secure a place at one of their top three primary school preferences

The informal session is the perfect opportunity to find out more about the support available to adopt the amazing children waiting for a new home.

Allowances for foster carers have now risen, as the county look for carers with skills and dedication
